So I was using my Sempron PC and it suddenly froze. I pressed the reset button, the screen went black and it started making a repeating long beep.

On its motherboard, this kind of beep usually means a memory error as far as I know, so I tried reseating the RAM. That didn't help, neither did trying to clear the CMOS.

I thought the single 1 GB RAM stick in it must have failed, so I bought two new ones just in case. Unfortunately, it didn't power up with any of them, so it looks like the motherboard and/or power supply gave up the ghost.

This made me really sad and distracted me from a lot of things I have planned, as the Sempron PC was one of my favorite computers. I mostly wrote this site on it for instance! I didn't want to have a broken PC collecting dust, but an usable early 2000s box, so I started looking for a replacement motherboard.

I found one! Someone was selling a working barebones PC from the era - power supply, motherboard, CPU and RAM for a very cheap price. The CPU is a socket 939 Athlon 64, which is very close to the Sempron 2600, but a bit more powerful. On the photos, the motherboard didn't seem to have any bad caps and the PC was shown working. Its silver case looks much cooler than the black one I used for the Sempron PC too (the black case is what I had laying around). The power supply is a Modecom Feel, which were very common in 2000s Poland and were infamous for failing and blowing up PCs. Therefore, I also ordered a new power supply just to be sure.

For now, I'm waiting for this computer to get shipped to me, so I can swap the working parts from my Sempron PC to the new Athlon 64 PC. I can't wait to have a working 2000s desktop computer again! While waiting, I'll have to use my other computers, like the T430 and the Toshiba.
